543 Day Writing Journey, Maescribes

Maescribes. Day 327.

Apple, Instagram, and Yankee Candle started as side hustles. I’m starting one, and it feels scary, surreal, and so euphoric!

Owning a business is something I’ve always been fascinated with. I never imagined it would be within my reach, but I stretched out my arm and fingers and here I am.

I decided not to wait until I had a concrete, mentally tangible plan, and just dove in. Yesterday. I applied for and paid for my LLC in NC, and will be licensed when it’s approved. The website will be up and running on Tuesday (with no content but still), I own the domain name Maescribes.com, and I have email.

What will I do for you? The products are still to be completely determined, but here are some options:

  • proofing documents for people and businesses
  • editing other’s work
  • writing descriptions for properties, restaurants, etc.
  • helping folks build websites and blogs
  • designing, protecting, and developing their brand
  • more

Let’s talk about the name. Mae is my middle name I inherited from Nana. She was Edna Mae. To scribe is to write. It also means to copy or record, which is something I may do for others. The word scribe is also a nod and bow to the most endearing Bartleby, a character in Herman Melville’s Bartleby, the Scrivener, someone I understand, a man who frequently said, “I would prefer not to.”

There is a chance that this will all dissolve and I will chuckle and say, “Remember when I tried to start a business?” Failure is part of life, yet so is success.

Full speed ahead, but in slow-motion.

  1. Dear Teri,
Well; now that we know what your “new endeavor” is, we wish you nothing but the best of luck!!! As a writer, we know of your capabilities, and as a “dear niece”, we know of who you are as a “caring mom”, and person who cares about others, wanting nothing more, then to see other people happy… “You go girl”!!!
    Love,
    Uncle Lee 🙂
